Aging and Exercise-Do they really go hand in hand?

It’s a common belief that aging and exercise infact aren’t a winning combination, but we’re here to tell you otherwise!

“I’m Too Old to Start Exercising"
No matter the age you start science shows that adding exercise into your weekly routine can improve your health, boost your mood and increase your independence. Research shows that even people in their 80s and 90s can build muscle, improve balance, and enhance their overall well-being with regular activity.

“Exercise is Too Dangerous for Older Adults”
While high-impact workouts may not be suited to everyone, avoiding exercise altogether is actually far more dangerous. Lack of movement leads to muscle loss, reduced bone density, and a higher risk of falls and cardiovascular disease.

The safest way to exercise as you age is to incorporate a mix of strength training, balance, flexibility and cardio. Working with a trainer is the perfect way to help keep you safe whilst staying active.

"Strength Training is Only for Younger People"
Strength training is infact more important as you age. It’s essential for maintaining muscle mass, preventing osteoporosis, and keeping joints healthy. Science shows that resistance training can help older adults regain lost muscle and even slow down the aging process at a cellular level.

Strength training just a couple of times a week can lead to major improvements in overall strength, mobility, and confidence.

“I Should Avoid Exercise if I Have Arthritis or Chronic Pain"

It’s natural to worry about movement if you’re suffering with arthritis or chronic pain, but low-impact exercise can actually ease symptoms rather than make them worse.

The key is to listen to your body, modify exercises as needed, and stay consistent.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve never set foot in a gym or taken part in any regular exercise, the rewards (even if you’re late to the game) are timeless. Regular exercise can improve heart health, boost brain function, reduce stress, and even extend your lifespan.

Start small and remember, consistency wins. Movement is medicine.
